| Level 1... What’s involved?
The majority of your work at this level will be on learning and familiarising yourself with the required vocabulary. As BSL has a different syntax, you will learn to use these signs in the correct order. In addition, you will learn accepted conventions when using the language. You will also be introduced to a few short-cuts in BSL. These will be appropriate to this level and can be helpful. However they are important for those wishing to progress to Level 2 and beyond as they allow for faster and more fluent exchange of information and ideas. Finally you will become familiar with a number of cultural differences, such as name signs, ways of attracting attention etc.
Once you have learned the above, you will use them to establish and maintain a dialogue with deaf individuals. Your 3 assessments will be based on such dialogues. For full details of Qualification Structure Objectives you should read the Signature Qualification Specification |
