Theatre Interpreting Course

Course description:
Candidates will learn a range of techniques and skill required for interpreting in all areas of theatre. From side of the stage theatre interpreting and shadow interpreting in character - to Technical interpreting for a deaf performer and workshop interpreting. Candidates will learn how to work and accommodate usual interpreting techniques to suite the situation of the theatre.

They will learn how to work with Directors, Stage managers, Stage crew and Actors as well as sound and lighting crew and discover the roles and responsibilities of each of these persons. Aspects of theatre will be explored to ensure the best possible performance is achieved for all audience members without being intrusive to the creating process of theatre.

Candidates will also learn about costuming, make up and lighting to make it suitable for deaf audience members as well as blending in with the performance piece. Covering all types of theatre from Musicals and pantomimes - straight plays and devised movement based pieces. Candidates will explore how to interpret music and when it is appropriate to do so. Candidates will learn all aspects of front of house procedures and who the point of contact is for each venue to ensure the policy is accessible for all deaf patrons. Candidates will learn the importance of presentation and the necessary to be presentable to the audience members. Candidates will complete a series of theatre workshops to learn the creating process of a theatre piece.

N/A

Entry requirements:
Minimum Level 3 CACDP or interview to asses signing skill of this level. Must be completed or looking to attend either CSW or interpreting course available.
